Pardee Commons
We warmly welcomed homeowners to the Pardee Commons 10-home project in Fall 2009. The Commons are an affordable homeownership project in the Lents Urban Renewal Are, built in partnership with our friends at Proud Ground. Other partners included the Portland Housing Bureau (formerly the Portland Development Commission), Albina Community Bank, Communitecture and Perkins Architectural.
The homes were designed and constructed with a focus on livability and green building:
- The five cottages and five townhouses surround a common green, making it easier to build and strengthen community ties.
- Green features included: solar hot water, maple wood floors, high performance insulation, permeable pavers, Energy Star Certified appliances, and cutting-edge heat pumps and heat recovery ventilators.
- The homes are located in a vibrant SE Portland community, less than 1.5 miles of the Green MAX line and the 600 acre Powell Butte Nature Park, and less than a mile from the Springwater Corridor bike path, the Leach Botanical Gardens and Zenger Farms.
- The Commons were the first land trust condominium project in Oregon bringing Proud Grounds extraordinary model for affordable homeownership to a new arena.
- The homes met the Earth Advantage Platinum certification standard (similar to LEED for Homes).
- The homes were certified as Oregon High Performance Homes (the homes use at least 50% less energy that homes built to code).
- The Pardee Commons project was featured in the 2009 Build It Green Tour.
